Vitrine
Terms of use
Last updated November 2, 2026 · Version 2026-11-02
These terms are the agreement between you and Prumo Works Ltd, who runs Vitrine, for using Vitrine: a private family museum that people join only by invitation. By accepting them you agree to follow them. Prumo Works Ltd ("Prumo Works", "we", "us") is a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17384166, with its registered office at 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. How we handle personal data is in the Privacy notice.
1. Your account
- Accounts come with an invitation. Use your own account, and keep your password and passkeys to yourself.
- Tell your museum's administrator or us if you think someone else is using your account.
- You are responsible for what is done with your account.
2. Using the museum
A family museum is shared by a family. Please:
- use it for your family's history and memories, and treat other members with respect;
- keep what you see private: do not copy, publish or pass on other people's details, documents or photos outside the museum without their permission;
- not try to see branches, records or accounts you were not given access to, or get around the museum's limits;
- not upload anything unlawful, hateful, harassing or sexually explicit, malware, or anything meant to harm the service or other people;
- not overload the service, scrape it, or use it to send spam.
3. What you add
- Add only material you have the right to share: your own, your family's, or material whose owner allows it. Old photos and documents can still be under copyright; if you are unsure, say where they came from.
- Living people: add or show details, documents or photos of a living person only if they agree, or, for a child, their parent or guardian agrees. Remove them when that person asks.
- Be truthful. Say where a fact comes from, and mark what is a guess as a guess. Sensitive matters (such as paternity, adoption, health or legal cases) deserve particular care.
4. Who owns what
- What you add stays yours, or its owner's. You allow Prumo Works to store it, copy it, process it (for example to make thumbnails, transcribe it, index it and let the guide answer from it) and show it to the people your museum lets see it, only to run Vitrine for your museum. This permission ends when the material is deleted, except for copies kept for the time the Privacy notice describes.
- Once you add something to a family museum, its members may keep seeing it, and its curators may correct, organise or remove it, as the museum's rules allow.
- Vitrine itself (its software, design and name) belongs to Prumo Works. Public sources shown in the museum, such as Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons, keep their own licences.
5. Genealogy and AI are not always right
- Family history is built from records, memories and research that can be wrong or incomplete. Vitrine shows the source of each fact so you can judge it, but we do not guarantee that any fact, date or relationship is correct.
- The guide, transcriptions, readings of photos and generated pages are made by AI. They can be wrong, misread a document or describe something that did not happen. Check what matters against its sources before relying on it, and do not use Vitrine for legal, medical, inheritance or citizenship decisions.
6. Suspension and leaving
- A museum's administrators decide who is a member and what they may see. We may suspend or remove an account, or remove material, that breaks these terms or the law, or that puts the service or other people at risk.
- You may stop using Vitrine at any time, and delete your account from the account menu, as the Privacy notice describes.
7. Our responsibility
- We work to keep Vitrine available and your family's data safe, but the service is provided as it is, and it can be interrupted, change or have errors. Keep your own copies of originals that matter to you.
- As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, or for losses caused by what members add, by AI output, or by events beyond our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that the law does not allow to be limited, including your rights as a consumer.
8. Changes to these terms
These terms have a version, the date they were last updated, shown above. When they change, you are asked to read and accept the new version the next time you visit, before you go on using Vitrine.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer you may bring a claim in the courts where you live and you keep the protections of your local law that cannot be set aside by agreement.
10. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent through the Prumo Works contact form.
